OK so I was excited to see the previous post by Todd on the sport of Parkour sometimes called free running. This is a sport I have followed for a while and have tried to a small (very small) degree. It is very strenuous and takes the idea of running around like a kid again up about 100 levels. This is a video a friend of mine made near my house a few years back but it shows that when done properly it looks elegant and nearly effortless. On the promotional side of things this is popping up more and more in advertising and in event activations because of how visually stunning it is. . .
It started with an idea and transformed into this amazing instrument of technology. I love it.
Multiple simultaneous users share total control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on the surface of a bright circular table. Manipulating these objects, representatives of the classical components of a modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sound typologies, generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer.
Parkour has recently received a lot of attention. From the Ultimate Parkour Challenge on MTV to huge viral video sensations on YouTube. I believe we are witnessing the infancy of an amazing sport. This video (sorry so grainy) encapsulates the beauty and danger of Parkour.
The Gadget Show in the UK is a new show that was looking to create a viral video to help create buzz. So The Darkroom TV teamed up with The Viral Factory and created Gadgetvader. Enjoy!
As if TV’s oddest reality show competition couldn’t get any weirder, an accordion-playing pooch and a flaming pizza juggler are about to join the competition on NBC’s America’s Got Talent (Tuesday, 9 ET/PT).
Pup, a 7-year-old mutt, and Ohio pizzeria owner Patt Miller are among 12 new acts chosen from 20,000 audition YouTube videos submitted for inclusion on the show, which has traditionally relied on live auditions, including some 70,000 this year.
The YouTube candidates were culled to about 40, then winnowed to 11 by AGT producers and show judges Howie Mandel, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne. YouTube viewers selected Pittsburgh’s Jackie Evancho - a 10-year old opera singer - to round out Tuesday’s competition.
“It was like finding a needle in a haystack,” says producer Jason Raff.
The live show - from which four acts will emerge to join this season’s 24 semifinalists vying for $1 million and a Las Vegas contract - could have even more of a train-wreck quality than past episodes of summer’s top-rated series. “Bypassing the traditional audition experience and putting people we’ve never met before on live TV is an experiment,” Raff says. “It’s kind of scary.”
Titled “Turning the Place Over,” this art installation was created by Richard Wilson for the Liverpool Biennial. The most amazing part is that it looks like it is moving by itself. This is pure genius.
